Sunday 29th August 2004

After the cancellation of the first competition at the beginning of August due to bad  weather the second competition went ahead on the 29th August, the venue being the centre arm of the Portland Harbour Breakwater. This is a venue very few get to fish as it is normally closed to all.

After the fist comp was called off due to the Weymouth harbour boats not being able to get us out or back. The Portland harbour boats were approached to see if they could help us out. They came up trumps. Also the Portland Harbour owners allowed us to use the main car park for a fee. So all booking in and departures were from the Fuelling arm in Portland harbour. This meant that the anglers had a choice of either going to the Fort or to the Hood end of the breakwater, only taking about 15 minuets to get out to the breakwater. The weather conditions were not bad. Only a westerly wind of about 3-5 no rain or rough seas gave a day. Species caught included Gars, Pollack, Ballen and Cuckoo wrasse. Mullet, Pout, Poor Cod, Black Bream and Red Mullet. Also a few Dogs were caught. A total of 61 anglers took part and this included 2 juniors and 1 lady.

After Match Refreshments were available at the clubhouse.

Competitors talking over the one that got away with a pint and a pie.

Prize Table

One of the days winners.

Result.

1st with 10.75kg was Malcolm Stote, who also won the super pool and the heaviest fish pool for a Ballen Wrasse of 1.53kg= 31b plus.

2nd with 8.07 was Andy Parkhill, 3rd and a bright star in Weymouth Angling scene was Tom Tamer (fishing in his first season as an adult), with 7.47kg.

The junior's prize donated by Paul and Carol Phillips of Dennings Tackle Shop who donated a new shore rod. Shane Samber won this with 2.13kg.

There was a pairs event held along side the usual pools. Chris Dark and Tony O'Grady won this with combined weight of 11kg.

Every one seemed happy with the arrangement for this 2nd event, so hopefully we can prevail on Portland Port Plc and the Portland boats for next years 2 events.
