Twenty one lady anglers in seven teams of threes turned up to fish the first of this year’s ladies team league competition, in this competition all fish caught count as one point and all fish over the clubs minimum sizes are weighed and given one point per ounce.

The competition started with all of the anglers catching right from the start and the helpers struggling to keep up as the fish were unhooked and recorded before being released back to the sea, but as it started to settle down two of the teams (Shakin Ure Wrasse and The ‘Muphia’) started pull away from the rest and matched each other fish for fish.

At the halfway point things started to change and the other teams started catching more fish and cut the lead of the leading two team but as the tide turned the fish went back on the feed and all teams were catching.

At the end of the two hour competition the ‘Shakin Ure Wrasse’ team ( Toni Pay, Sue Butterworth and Sarah Wright) had totalled 70 fish points to beat second placed ‘The Muphia’ (Dee Weeding, Toria Weeding and Hayley Guille) by 7 ½ fish points, in third place we had ‘The Three Amigos’ (Sharron Bedwell, Linda Boggust and Denise Davies) with 40 ½ fish points just 1 ½ fish points in front of fourth placed team The ‘Does My Bass Look Big In This’ (Kate Smith, Wendy McCready and Jane Graham).

Only 5 fish points separated the next three teams ‘The Pigeon Peckers’ had thirty three fish points ,’Ladies In Red’ thirty fish points and ‘The ( Not) Dab Hands’ twenty eight fish points.

Biggest fish caught was a Ballan Wrasse of 15 oz by Linda Whitted of the ‘Ladies In Red ‘ team.

After the competition all the anglers and helpers returned to the Weymouth Angling Society club to have a drink and talk about the one that got away and enjoy a buffet supplied by the sponsors WEYMOUTH PRECISION ENGINEERS and prepared by Sue and Toni , Many Thanks to all who helped to make this a very enjoyable day.
