Another cold and very windy night on the pier for the last of the juniors winter league competitions, and with final league positions at stake many of the juniors fished at the head of the pier out in worst of the wind hoping for the fish that would make the difference between first or second place.

And it was here that James Lane made sure that he would be the over 12s winter champion as he caught a Pollock and a small codling to win on the night, second place went to Andy Shorter with 3 fish points and he also came second in the league, third place was shared with Tristan Haines and Aaron Neilson having 2 fish points with George crouch coming fifth on 1 fish point.

The under 12s section was won by Sam Short with 12 ½ fish points with new comer Billy Austin getting 3 fish points for second place and Jamie Neilson on 1 fish point for third.

The winter league presentation will take place at Weymouth Angling Society Club House on Monday the 2 nd April at 7.30 pm, also on the night information on the Inter Schools League will be available, this competition will start on May 14 th and be fished every second Monday of the month thru to November,

The Junior summer league will start on the 16 th April, all competitions will be fished on the Stone pier until mid September when we will move to the Pleasure pier.

All fishing competitions are fished from 6.45 till 8.o’clock.

With the wind and rain coming down through the harbour it was not the most pleasant of nights and while some sort shelter out of the wind others stood and braved it at the end of the pier.

In the under 12s section Jamie Neilson was looking good for a win when Richard Spence hooked into a nice Pollock of 1lb 3 oz to take the lead and finish as the winner on the night, Jamie Neilson came second with 5 fish points and league leader Tom Butterworth had to be content with 1 fish point and third place.

In the over 12s section James lane continued his winning ways scoring 14 fish points with Andy Shorter in second place with 10 fish points, Sophie Butterworth came third with 6 fish points and Will Sear was fourth on 5 fish points.

Not so cold this Monday and though the wind was blowing across the bay it was not too unpleasant. The senior members stuck it out on the end of the pier hoping for any dog fish that might swim by and sure enough James Lane found the only one that was caught, it weighed 1lb 4oz and it was good enough to win the over 12s section, second place went to Aaron Neilson with a pout of 4 ½ oz ,third place went to newcomer Adam Everett with 4 fish points and in joint fourth place we had Sophie Butterworth and another newcomer Ivan Everett both having 3 fish points.

The under 12s section was a close battle between Tom Butterworth and Jamie Neilson and when time was called Tom had 12 fish points and Jamie was just one behind on 11 fish points, third place went new member Edwin Gateshill who finished with 3 fish points.

Monday 5th February 2007

With the winds staying in the north and the east the pleasure pier can be a cold place on a Monday night but the number of junior turning up to fish is staying constant and the fish are still there to be caught, top of the under 12s this week was Jamie Neilson with 6 fish with Tom Butterworth getting 2 fish to finish second and in third place we had newcomer Richard Spence fishing for the first time and catching his first fish.

With most of the over 12s fishing off the end of the pier in hope of a dog fish or maybe a flattie it was down to person looking for the slightest of bites that would get the most fish, and it was James Lane who came out on top with 11 fish, joint second place was shared with Andy Shorter and Liam Parsons both ending on 9 fish points, Aaron Neilson came fourth with 7 fish points and fifth place was shared between 3 anglers each with 6 fish points (Will Sear, George Crouch and Aaron Baber).

Best fish on the night was a Pout of 7oz caught by Liam Parsons

Monday 29th January 2007

Much better weather this week and a good turn out of young anglers all trying to out fish each other, and James Lane set the pace with his first fish of the night, a Pollock of 13oz which put him into an early lead leaving the rest of the over 12s to play catch up and by the end of the match James had totaled 22 fish points, in second place was Liam Parsons with 15 fish points which included a pout of 5oz.

Current league leader Andy Shorter came third with 10 fish points and in joint fourth place had George Crouch and Will Sear with 7 fish points each.

The under 12s section produced joint winners, Tom Butterworth and Jamie Neilson with 6 fish points each and Sam Short came third just 1 fish point behind.

Monday 22nd January 2007

With force 6/7 wind blowing in a north/easterly direction across Weymouth Bay it was not the best of nights for fishing, but the turnout was encouraging only 1 less than the week before.

Fishing started at 6.45 with most of the juniors choosing to fish on the inside of the pier seeking what shelter they could, but with wind getting colder and stronger and only 2 fish being caught (Andy Shorter and Aaron Baber had a Rockling each, and with Andy’s being the larger of the 2 he was adjudged the winner on the night) it was decided to call a halt and try again next week.

Monday 15th January 2007

Not a bad evening weather wise this week, the wind was blowing in from the south west so the shelters on the pier provided some comfort and the rain came in light showers, and while the fish were not plentiful the came regular enough to keep the young anglers interested.

In the under 12s section Sam Short caught steadily to score 15 fish points with Tom Butterworth not far behind him on 11 fish points, in third place was Jamie Neilson with 4 fish points.

With some of the over 12s casting out further in the hope of attracting a L.S.D it was left to the ones fishing closer to the pier to do the scoring, James Lane came first with 18 fish points with Aaron Neilson in second place with 12 fish points, third place went to the only young lady fishing on the night Sophie Butterworth and she scored 7 fish points.

In fourth place was Jamie McCready with 5 fish points and fifth we had Will Sear and Liam Parsons both on 4 fish points.

Most of the fish caught were small pout with a couple of small whiting and a small Pollock
