Monday 2nd July

Despite the weather forecast of rain over 30 juniors turned up to fish this junior league competition, Laura Crouch caught the first fish within seconds of the start and from that moment on the fish came steadily, after 15 minutes the rain did start but undeterred the youngsters carried on fishing.

Star of the night for the over 12s was Matthew Whitted, he caught fish steadily all evening and totalling 40.5 fish points to take first place, George Otton came second with a total of 32 fish points that included 4 mackerel, in third place was Farron Aitkin with 20 fish points and fourth place went to James lane with 16 fish points.

The under 12s section was won by Sam Short with a total of 20 fish points, Tommy Butterworth came second with 17 fish point and in third place we had Megan Neilson with 13 fish points with Conner Aitkin on 10 fish points in fourth place.

Monday 18th June

A good turn out for this junior summer league competition and with many of the young anglers hoping for mackerel or gar it was disappointing that only five mackerel were caught, and then by only three of the senior lads, Andy Shorter caught two( 11.5 & 9.5 ozs) to finish with 21 fish points just half a point in front of James Lane ( 2 mackerel – 11 & 9.5 ozs )

Third place in the senior section went Aaron and Jamie Neilson both finishing with 12 fish points and Farron Aitkin came fifth with 9 fish points.

In the junior ( under 12s) section Sam Short had a good night totalling 24 fish points, second place went to Billy Lewis with 16 fish points, Megan Neilson was third with 13 fish points and Conner Aitkin came fourth with 21 fish points.

Monday 4th June

Forty juniors turned to fish the fourth league competition of the Weymouth Angling Society junior summer league, and with the pleasant weather the fishing was very good.

Many of the over 12s decided to try the end of the pier in the hope of catching mackerel and although the mackerel were not plentiful they managed to catch enough to keep the competition between them selves keen, Paul Talbot came top with 3 mackerel for 25 fish points with George Otton also catching 3 for 21.5 fish points, third place went to James Lane with 2 mackerel for 16 fish points and Adrian Bevan fished along the side of the pier after pout and wrasse to finish with 15.5 fish points.

In the under 12s section New comer Andrew Monelle fish well to finish with 11 fish points just ahead of Billy Lewis who had 10 fish points, Tommy Butterworth had 8.5 fish points to come third and Sam Short had 8 fish points for fourth place.

Species caught included Mackerel, Pout, Ballan and Corkwing Wrasse and a variety of Blennies and Gobies.

Monday 16th April

Almost 40 juniors turned up to fish the first competition of the summer league and with almost every one catching fish it turned out to be a busy night for Judy our fish recorder and all the helpers.

Each fish caught is counts as 1 fish point and fish above the clubs minimum size is weighed and given 1 fish point per ounce and at the end of the nights fishing the junior with the most fish points gets 30 league points, second gets 25 points third 22 points, fourth 20 points and so on down the list, and every one who turns up gets 1 league point then each week the league is made up, we have 2 sections under 12s and 12 to 16 th birthday.

This week the under 12s section was won by Sam short who totalled 22 fish points with Megan Neilson in second place with 16 fish points, third was Tommy Butterworth with 15 fish points and Paul Bevan came fourth with 10 fish points.

In the over 12s section newcomer Adrian Bevan scored 35 fish points with Andy Shorter in second place with 26 fish points , third place was shared with James Lane and Aaron Neilson each scoring 19 fish points and in fourth place we had Nathan Ward with 17 fish points.
