The rain that had been threatening all day finally arrived just when all the anglers were making their way to the pier and by the start time of 6.45pm it was raining steady, but it was soon forgotten as the young anglers started catching right from the start.
In the junior school section the 'Funky fish' team from Radipole Junior school and the 'Fish fighters' from Port1and’s Tophill were having a real old battle matching each other fish for fish all through the competition, but at the end of 75 minutes it was the 'Funky Fish' team (Sam Short, Tom Butterworth and Ryan Casey) that finished top with a total of 67 beating the 'Fish Fighters' (Nathan Ward, Owen King, Jay & Jessica Lelliott) by 9 fish.
The senior section was even closer with only 6 fish separating the top 3 teams, a last gasp mackerel caught by James Lane gave the Royal Manor 'Rockies' team(Will Medcraft, Billy & Tom Wright and James Lane) a winning total of 56 fish, beating the All Saints 'Floaters' team (Ben Peach, Dan &, Natalie Newman and Lloyd Briggs) by just 2 fish, with 'The Hollies' from Wey Valley(Andy Shorter, Aaron Baber, Jamie McCready and Alex Graham) in 3 rd place with 50 fish.
Junior best specimen went to Matthew Whitted of the 'Little Pollocks' team with a 3oz pout, and in the senior section it was a dead heat with Natalie Newman (Floaters) and Andy Shorter (Honies) both having a 9oz garfish.
