Monday 9th October 06 PLEASURE PIER
On calm evening over 50 juniors turned up to fish the 7 th Inter Schools Competition and with the conditions being as they were many tried float fishing for Pollock and garfish.
In the junior section the ‘Funky Fish’( Sam Short, Tom Butterworth and Ryan Casey) from Radipole Junior School had 28 fish points, second place went to Tophill Fish Fighters( Jay and Jessie Lelliott Owen King and Nathan Ward) with 19 fish points, in third place Jordan Cormack fishing on his own for Southwell Shrimps caught 2 garfish for 13 fish points and Manor Park Maggots (Ezme Selby, Abbey and Ellie Stevens and Max Wright) came fourth place with 11 Fish points, and fifth place went to The Black Widows( Megan and Jamie Neilson) with 4 fish points.
The over 12s section went to The Fish Raiders (Tristan Haines, Dan McSevenny and Paul Talbot) with 21 fish points, in joint second place we had D.M.S.(Kathleen and Steven Buik,Will Sear and George Crouch) and The Hollies (Aaron Baber, Andy Shorter, Jamie McCready and Alex Graham), both teams with 13 fish points and fourth place went to the Floaters ( Ben Peach, Natalie and Dan Newman) with 10 fish points.
Tackle vouchers were presented to the top two teams in each section by our main sponsor Andy Selby owner of Weymouth Angling Centre and sausage rolls and pizza prepared by Toria Weeding were waiting for the young anglers at the Weymouth Angling Society club house.
Monday 11th September 06 PLEASURE PIER
Despite the thunder rolling around during the afternoon and the rain just before the start of the competition 19 teams turned up to fish the 6 th match in the 8 match series, and once again it was a busy evening for every one concerned.
In the junior section the ‘Funky Fish’( Sam Short, Tom Butterworth and Ryan Casey) from Radipole Junior School had 70 fish points thanks mainly to the ground baiting by one of the dads, in second place ‘ Manor Park Maggots’( Esme Selby, Abbey Stevens, Ellie Stevens and Max Wright) from Dorchester Manor Park collected 43 fish points, 3 rd place went to Tophill Fish Fighters( Jay and Jessie Lelliott Owen King and Nathan Ward) with 24 fish points and in 4 th we had the ‘Black Widows’(Megan and Jamie Neilson) with 16 fish points.
The senior schools section was much closer with the nights winners ‘The Rockies’ (James Lane, Tom Wright and Will Medcraft) from Portland Royal Manor scoring 58 fish points just 1 fish point in front of The ‘Floaters’( Ben Peach, Dan and Natalie Newman) from Weymouth All Saints, in 3 rd place we had D.M.S.( Kathleen and Steven Buik, Will Sear and George Crouch) from Dorchester Middle School with 50 fish points, and in 4 th were The ‘Hollies’ ( Aaron Baber, Andy Shorter, Jamie McCready and Alex Graham) from Weymouth Wey Valley with 38 fish points.

Monday 12th June 06 WEYMOUTH STONE PIER
70 young anglers turned up for the third monthly Weymouth Angling Centre inter schools competition on Monday and with the sea temperature rising they were well rewarded with plenty of fish, the under 12s top spot went to Funky Fish from Radipole Junior School, with just three members (Sam Short,. Tom Butterworth and Ryan Casey) of the team fishing they went for the smaller fish along the side of the pier and scored an amazing 75 fish points.
The under 12 league leaders, The Fish Fighters from Portlands Tophill(Jay and Jessica Lelliott, Nathan Ward and Owen King) came second with 49 fish points, and Dorchester Manor Park Maggots came third with 18 fish points.
In the senior section the Wey Valley Hollies (Aaron Baber, Andy Shorter, Jamie McCready and Alex Graham) made it three wins out of three scoring 52 fish points with Andy catching three mackerel to help them along, second place went to a mixed school team 'Girlies + One' made up of Leah Short, Sophie Butterworth, Katherine and Ashton Corbin, they scored 35 fish points.
Third place went to the first of the six All Saints Teams' The Floaters' with 33 fish points, just l fish point in front of The Rockies from Portland Royal Manor, D.M.S. from Dorchester Middle School scored 30 fish points to finish in fifth place.
At the Weymouth Angling Society club after the competition, tackle vouchers were presented to the first and second teams in both sections by sponsor Andy Selby, owner of Weymouth Angling Centre and hot sausage rolls were provided by Dee Weeding and club secretary Angie Oswald, many thanks to those who helped.
Monday 8th May 06 WEYMOUTH STONE PIER
Nearly 70 young anglers turn up for the second monthly Weymouth
Angling Centre inter schools competition on Monday and with the sea temperature rising
they were well rewarded with plenty of fish, the under 12s top spot went to Fish Fighters
from Portlands Tophill, Jessica and Jay Lelliott, Nathan Ward and Owen King, with 14
fish points, just 1 point in front of Joe Darler's Team Wyke from Wyke Regis junior
school, third place went to Black Widows Jamie Neilson and Dylan Steele with 11
points and in fourth place we had the Southwell Shrimps, Scott Gray, Andy Gray, Jordan
Connack and Liam Tugwell.
With thirteen teams in the over 12s section competition is always going to be keen
and especially as many of these juniors have been fishing against each other most weeks
for a while and so it proved.
Wey Valleys 'The Hollies' team of Aaron Baber, Andy Shorter, Jamie McCready
and Alex Graham came first for the second month with a score of 48 fish points with
Dorchester Middle School team D.M.S. made up of Kathleen & Steven Buik, Will Sear
and George Crouch in second place with 41 fish points.
Third place was shared by All Saints team "The Floaters' made up of Ben Peach,
Dan Newman, Natalie Newman and Vicky McGrady and the Royal Manor Team "The
Rockies' James Lane, Tom Wright and Will Medcraft, both teams scoring 40 fish points.
Monday 10th April 06 WEYMOUTH STONE PIER
A great turnout for the first of this years inter schools competitions, eighteen
teams from eleven local schools attended involving over fifty young anglers, the teams
came from schools in Weymouth, Portland, Dorchester and Chickerell.
With a few novice anglers the helpers were kept busy setting up fishing rods and
explaining the art of baiting and casting but before long fish were being caught and the
excitement of catching a fish and helping your team score points was mounting.
In the under 12s section the experienced team from Tophill Portland calling them
selves The Fish Fighters (Jay and Jessica Lelliott, Owen King and Nathan Ward) scored
22 points with Dorchester's Manor Park Maggots (Esme Selby, Abby and Elbe Stevens )
coming second with 11 points, in third place we had D.M.S from Dorchester (Kathleen
and Steven Bulk, Will Sear and George Crouch,) with 7 points,
The Hollies from Wey Valley( Aaron Baber, Andy Shorter and Jamie McCready)
finished top team with 20 points with Portlands Royal Manor team The Rockies (James
Lane, Tom Wright and Will Medcraft) 15 points coming second, Budmouths Squidees
(Reece Diplock, Reece Quailey and Joel Seeks) in third place with 12 points, and fourth
place being shared by two of All Saints teams The Floaters and Jammy Dodgers both
with 6 points.
The main sponsor is once again Andy Selby ofWeymoutb Angling Centre with
support from local businesses. Billy Short Building services. Trad Casey's Broadway
Bathrooms & Kitchens, Steve Male's S.J.M. Catering and Lodmoor Pitch & Putt, in
addition to these sponsors we also have two separate prizes of vouchers to the value of£200 to the winning school in each section, this is being made available thanks to the
generosity of local businessman Mr Mike DeBear of FLADEN Tackle.
Next inter schools competition will be held on the Weymouth Stone Pier on
Monday the 8th May, Fishing 6.45pm to 8.00
