Since it’s inauguration in 1900, The Weymouth Angling Society has endeavoured to bring about and facilitate a high standard of fishing and fishing competitions. With Weymouth’s unique natural surroundings, which include, Chesil Beach, Portland Harbour, Portland Harbour Breakwater (This of course being man made.), Weymouth Beach, The Stone Pier, The Pleasure Pier,(These also being engineered and man made to aid safe berthing and protection of shipping and small boats.), Weymouth Inner and Outer Harbour, bring about a utopia of fine fishing facilities. Just add to these the prime fishing marks on The Isle of Portland including Portland Bill, Red Crane, Cheyne, Church Ope Cove, Chesil Cove as well as a multitude of cliff and rock fishing points make the area one of the finest in the U.K., especially for the species hunters. To extend the radius from the centre of Weymouth by a mere ten miles or so would bring a list as long as your arm. With Weymouth’s modern Fleet of charter craft, including FREEDOM – a charter boat specifically built for the disabled fishing community, and a great amount of temporary berthing for those who bring their own vessels, W.A.S. has been able to host and organise fishing at all levels, both shore and boat, over many years. Their ‘NEW’ Headquarters were built in 1974 and has enabled them to build a community of members who meet and partake in Darts, Pool, Crib, Whist, as well as social functions and parties including, Discos, Barn Dances, Family Fun Days, Bangers and Beans (our Family fish For Fun Day.), Mini Olympics (Johnny Mutters Games Night.), The Battle of The Sexes, Annual Race Night, Quiz Nights, (A Variety of Subjects, both Comedy and Serious, are used.) etc. Weymouth Angling Society is one of the most amiable and open fishing clubs to be found on the south coast. Temporary membership is available; this being included in most of our open competition entry fees. W.A.S. welcomes visiting fishermen/fisherwomen and their families whenever they are in the area. Weymouth A.S. are also able to organise competitions for private parties, clubs and organisations which turns your fishing trips into a worry/stress free day/week etc.
